Would you like to serve on the Roche Harbor Neighborhood Association Board of Directors? RHNA is a 501(c)(3) charity serving the northern part of San Juan Island, including the area around Roche Harbor.
RHNA is run by a Board of Directors elected by the members, usually at the July RHNA Annual Meeting. Directors serve terms of two years, so half the Board seats are up each year. This year, there are three seats open; those seats are currently held by Barnaby Zall, Sondi Arndt, and Geof Barker. All incumbents are running for re-election.
But we are always looking for new volunteers for the Board. A Director’s workload is generally pretty light, with meetings by Zoom now, but usually in person about every three months on average (though officers have more duties). Most activity is in the spring and summer, with an October meeting to set the budget and plans for the next year. In unusual circumstances, the Board may meet for special meetings to handle crises or opportunities, such as vacancies on the Board or special events.
Directors must be fully-paid members of RHNA. Our principal criteria for Directors beyond RHNA membership include:
- a commitment to serving the community as a whole and not just a home neighborhood,
- a diversity of experience, viewpoints and geography, and
- the ability to participate actively in discussions and decisions.
To nominate yourself or someone else, simply send a note with the nominee’s name, contact information and a brief expression of interest to RHNA.Pres@gmail.com. Nominations for 2021 must be RECEIVED by close of business Monday, June 14. This year’s election will be held by mail, as was done in 2020, with all ballots and proxy votes sent out in late June, and all ballots and proxies must be received by Thursday, July 8.
